Neck liposuction

This is the gold standard in removing under chin fat. Unlike other treatments, liposuction physically removes fat. An average liposuction treatment removes between 20 to 90 ml of fat. All other treatments rely on inflammation to destroy fat. 

Results are instant with liposuction as compared to injections which takes 6-9 months for results. 

One. That’s it. As a comparison, fat dissolving injections take up to 6 sessions, whilst fat freezing takes 2-3 treatments. 

The recovery from liposuction is the shortest- 2-3 days at most. In comparison, injections take 7 days to recover- per treatment. 

Liposuction is conducted in a theatre under conscious sedation. The whole procedure takes around 30 minutes. We mark the area & inject the numbing solution. 

Liposuction is conducted with a cannula. Then the overlying skin is tightened with radiofrequency. This delivers energy into the dermal layers which improves skin tone. 

Dressings & a compression bandage is then applied. It is kept on for 24 to 36 hours post treatment. 

No. We perform this procedure under continuous sedation. This means you are awake, but relaxed. Post procedure, you will not have any discomfort.

Post procedure you will notice a significant improvement in the under-chin area. This continues to improve as the overlying skin tightens in the next few months. 

If we use radiofrequency during the procedure, your skin may be slightly red for a few days. RF provides accelerated skin tightening, as the overlying skin can be lax after fat is removed. Bruising may last a week or two. 

At Cutis we perform several treatments for under chin fat. They each have their pros and cons. Non-liposuction candidates have a choice of radiofrequency, HIFU, freezing, or fat dissolving injections. 

Liposuction results in permanent removal of fat cells. Provided you keep a steady BMI, you will not gain any more fat in the treated area.

The caveat is that if you gain a lot more weight, the remaining fat cells can increase in size (but not number). Hence it is super important to maintain a steady weight with ANY fat reducing treatment.

Immediately. Post-surgery you will see an immediate reduction of fat- even with the swelling. Your results are permanent & will continue to improve as the overlying skin contracts. 

Maximal results are seen at 3 to 6 months as the skin tightens further. 

Liposuction. Our group offers ALL treatments, from injections to HIFU & liposuction, so we are unbiased in our options. We prefer liposuction because-

• The results from liposuction are highly predictable. Fat is physically removed; skin is then tightened.
• Downtime is minimal, compression dressing for 48 hours only.
• Costs are minimal (half the price of injections).
• Pain is minimal (as compared to injections).

Though very predictable in the outcomes, unsuitable candidates are-

• Patients on blood thinners
• If fat is behind the muscle layer
• If there is too much skin laxity
• If your body weight fluctuates over 10% of your normal body weight

If you are not suited to liposuction, treatments such as HIFU, RF, Coolsculpting or injections may be a better choice.

Type of fat: liposuction only works for pre-platysma fat. An accurate assessment is critical for the best results. 

Amount of laxity: If fat is removed, the overlying skin is lax. In most cases we use energy-based devices to tighten skin at the same time of fat removal. 

Stable weight: once removed, fat cells are gone forever. It is important you remain a steady weight as the remaining cells may enlarge. Staying within 4-8 kg of your normal weight will suffice.
