        What can fractional lasers treat?

Fractional lasers are best used for improving skin texture, meaning changes on the surface of the skin. Depending on the type of laser (that’s why we have so many of them), we can address-

        • Pigmentation including sunspots, age spots
        • Solar keratosis or actinic keratosis
        • Fine to deep wrinkles and creases
        • Acne and surgical scars, burn scars
        • Enlarged pores
        • Dull skin
        • Spots and barnacles including age warts
        • Melasma and deep pigmentation

What is the science behind fractional laser resurfacing?

Fractional lasers, as the name suggests, treats a percentage of the skin’s surface area. This is termed density and is within our control. The advantages of treating a predetermined surface area include:

        • Faster healing times
        • Less risks of side effects
        • Optimal collagen regeneration
        • Tailored approach for each problem
        • Less pain with the procedure

What is the best fractional laser for deep wrinkles & skin rejuvenation?

CO2 lasers combined with thulium lasers give the best results. The former treats deep concerns including wrinkles and skin laxity, whilst thulium addresses superficial concerns including pigmentation, texture, fine lines and pores. This combination is called Hybrid Laser Resurfacing. It is best for lighter skin types.

What is the best fractional laser for pigment?

Pico lasers are the best for pigment. This is a no downtime laser that targets both superficial and deep pigmentation such as freckles, sunspots, melasma and age spots. At Cutis we have two state of the art pico lasers, the Picoway and the Picosure Pro.

Pico lasers can treat all skin types, including ethic-darker skin. Depending on the type of pigmentation, most patients require between 2-4 sessions.

What is the best fractional laser for ethnic skin?

Pico lasers including the Picoway and the new Picosure Pro laser. These lasers can reduce pigment, pores, dull skin, fine wrinkles and age spots.

Pico fractional lasers are the lasers of choice for darker skin types as they offer the utmost safety and efficiency.

What is the best fractional laser for acne scars?

CO2 lasers followed by erbium. The best CO2 lasers include the eCO2 and the Ultrapulse.  For fine work we use the CO2RE, whilst for intermediate work we use the MixTo laser.

CO2 lasers, used correctly, are safe in darker skin types including Asian/Indian and Middle Eastern skin. We deliver the laser light using modified techniques to reduce the chances of skin colour changes.

What is the best fractional laser for enlarged pores?

If you have lighter skin, Fraxel HD is the best laser for stimulating collagen, in turn reducing the size of pores. 1-2 sessions will give great results.

For darker skin types, Pico lasers including Picoway and Picosure Pro give excellent results, with no downtime and minimal risks. Factor in 2-4 sessions.

What is the best fractional laser for eye rejuvenation?

CO2 lasers are the gold standard. We employ several types, depending on the depth of wrinkling. Most cases respond nicely to eCO2, deeper wrinkles are treated with the Deed & Active Fx Ultrapulse.

Unlike injectables, lasers generate your own collagen, reducing both fine and deep lines.

What is the best fractional laser for smoker’s lines?

CO2 and erbium laser treatments in combination give the best results. For deep smoker’s lines, we prefer to use fully ablative lasers, in combination with fractional lasers. Most patients require only one treatment, with a downtime of 6 to 9 days.

For mild wrinkles we can combine fractional CO2 lasers with dermal fillers and muscle relaxants.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the job. As a guide:

        • Skin rejuvenation 1-2 sessions
        • Acne scarring 3-4 sessions
        • Pigment 2-4 sessions with the pico fractional
        • Sun damage 1 treatment

        What can’t fractional lasers do?

Fractional lasers do not replace volume. Volume replacement can only be achieved with dermal fillers or fat transfer. To get the most natural results, you should consider three factors when it comes to rejuvenation:

Skin texture & quality. This means treating the palate of the skin. This is where gentle fractional lasers such as Fraxel and CO2 come into play.

        1. Volume. This is replaced with dermal hyaluronic acid or collagen stimulating fillers. Fat can also achieve volume replacement.
        2. Tone. Mild to moderate skin laxity can be treated with threads, HIFU and RF or radiofrequency. Deep fractional CO2 lasers can improve some cases.

How does fractional laser resurfacing compare to microneedling?

Microneedling is great for stimulating hair growth and dermal drug delivery, but it is an underwhelming treatment when it comes to skin rejuvenation. One simple laser resurfacing session gives better outcomes than a dozen microneedling treatments.

Lasers provided controlled heating. This means far more effective removal of pigment and stimulation of collagen. Schedule a FREE nurse consultation at our Brisbane clinics. T&C apply.
