Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Rarely, a tiny bruise may appear at the site of the injections. Ice application will reduce the bruise. If required make-up or tinted sunscreen can be used. Most patients will have some transient redness &  swelling of the treated area for less than half an hour after the treatment.

Normal daily activities may be resumed after the treatment. Exercise should be avoided for 24 hours post treatment. Whatever you do, avoid facial massages for 24 hours post anti-wrinkle & for one week post dermal fillers. 

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are generally seen after seven to ten days. In some patients, this can start at two to three days, but may take up to two weeks to be very noticeable. If you have super deep static wrinkles, especially of the frown lines, it often takes 8 to 12 weeks for the area to completely relax after anti-wrinkle injections. Once the lines are shallow, it is much easier to maintain. 

Longevity depends on the dose or units of anti-wrinkle injections administered. Results can last up to three to four months. Studies have confirmed that injections are more effective & last longer when given at regular intervals. 

Generally, treatment intervals can be longer in older patients as muscles weaken with maturity. If treatments are stopped, the muscle function will return to normal. Previously targeted wrinkles will return to their previous appearance.

Yes. We normally do this on the same day. The order is dermal fillers first, then anti-wrinkle injections last. This ensures correct product placement. 

Nope, not a good idea, unless the laser is away from the area of anti-wrinkle treatment. Swelling, even a small amount can misplace anti-wrinkle, leading to unwanted muscle relaxation away from the target area. We will guide you as to what is safe & appropriate. 

Yes, & no. Lasers are great for static wrinkles, or wrinkles at rest- especially on the upper lip area. Lasers do not treat dynamic wrinkles. 

A good way to understand wrinkling is to fold a piece of paper. Folding (or movement), leads to creases. Lasers are great at straightening up the crease, but don’t stop the action of folding. Anti-wrinkle injections stop the folding, thereby preventing creases. 

It’s like paint. Some artists prefer one of the other, hence the preference comes down to the injector & your personal experience. Most injections will understand two to three leading brands & can guide you accordingly. We use anti-wrinkle, Xeomin & Anti-wrinkle. 

While anti-wrinkle injections are extremely safe, there are a few minor complications that can arise after the procedure. 

If the muscles are too relaxed by injections, the brows can droop and make your eyes look smaller & feel heavier. These results can remain from 4-6 weeks to 3 months but are fully reversible. An accurate incidence of this side effect is around 1% of cases. Lower face injections have a slightly higher incidence of muscle droop & asymmetry. 

‘Non-responders’ & true ‘allergies’ are exceedingly rare. Most cases of non-responders just require more units. Allergies to botulinum toxin are also uncommon. If this occurs, your injection will select a short chain anti-wrinkle molecule from another company. Be guided by them.

The efficacy of either procedure depends on your clinical scenario. anti-wrinkle can be used preventatively, namely before you’re really noticing lines & wrinkles. We have numerous patients in their mid-twenties that undertake preventative anti-wrinkle as this prevents wrinkles from forming. 

Dermal fillers on the other hand, correct volume loss & provide support. The most common areas for fillers are the under-eye areas, lips, cheeks & jawline. The choice of each product depends on the area of concern & need. As a guide, the older you are, the more important hyaluronic acid is, & the less important anti-wrinkle is. 

The simple rule? Lines of expression need anti-wrinkle. Lines at rest need filler. Anti-wrinkle injections are a good choice for hitting “crease points.”‘ This is  where muscles contract. Hyaluronic acids are best for deep lines that are present even when facial muscles are not contracting. 

Hyaluronic acid fillers, which come in a variety of thicknesses so that the right one can be chosen for each skin type, last 6-24 months. Collagen stimulating dermal fillers will last beyond two years. Longevity depends on the type of filler, location & importantly your metabolic rate. 

anti-wrinkle can last around 3-6 months. Longevity is shortest in areas of repeated movement including the lips (lip flip) & marionette areas. Repeated anti-wrinkle injections can increase longevity, as a duration of action of over 9-12 months is common for those who have had previous injections.
