        FAQs

How can dermal fillers help eye rejuvenation?

Fillers are invaluable in eye rejuvenation, especially for more mature skin. The right dermal filler used beneath the eyes can instantly provide natural facial rejuvenation. Fillers can reduce unsightly, sunken, or dark circles caused by loss of volume in the undereye area. This helps correct the appearance of “tired eyes”.

Fillers around the eyes can also provide structural support to the lid cheek junction, & create smooth transitions from the temple, eyebrow to the lower eyelid.

Who are candidates for tear trough fillers?

Dermal fillers can be the correct treatment if you meet certain criteria-

        • Mild to moderate laxity under the eyes
        • Moderate to thick dermis
        • Volume deficiency under the eyes
        • Realistic expectations of what fillers can achieve

For those who aren’t candidates for this treatment, there are other options to address the under-eye area, such as laser treatments or surgery.

How do I know if I am a candidate for fillers?

The best approach is a personalized & custom-tailored one.

What are tear trough dermal fillers?

Tear trough fillers are injectable gels that are precisely placed under the skin to provide volume & smooth away dark circles, shadows & wrinkles. The filler is made of hyaluronic acid which is a gel-like substance that naturally exists in your body.

Hyaluronic acid hydrates and plumps the skin, giving the skin a youthful, healthy look. When injected into the under-eye areas, hyaluronic acid-based fillers increase fullness, correct volume loss & minimize shadows.

What types of fillers do we use?

Cutis Dermatology has a curated variety of dermal fillers from several different companies. This ensures we have the best selection of hyaluronic acid fillers from each company, as they all have different properties.

Based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body, a dermal filler is a clear gel that is injected into the facial area for the purpose of smoothing the appearance of wrinkles, replacing volume loss & reducing the appearance of shadows.

Our dermatologists also perform complex cases of eye fillers including the use of collagen stimulating calcium hydroxyapatite.

What are the side effects of dermal fillers in this area?

Yes, dermal fillers are very safe: The gel injected into your skin is biodegradable, allowing it to break down and become absorbed into the skin naturally. Complications can arise, these are rare and will be discussed with you prior to the procedure. In the eye area the most common side effects include-

        • Bruising
        • Lumpy uneven areas
        • Tyndall or blueing of area

Dermal fillers can markedly improve the periocular area, replenishing loss volume & collagen. Our specialists have over 15 years experience in the use of both hyaluronic acid as well as collagen stimulating dermal fillers.

Can dermal fillers get rid of dark circles?

Dermal fillers can help treat some cases. Most cases of dark circles are multifactorial including changes in volume, pigmentation, vascularity & more. Fillers only address one aspect, namely volume.

The most common filler we use is hyaluronic acid, however for complex cases of thin skin & dark circles our dermatologists use a special dilution of collagen stimulating filler known as calcium hydroxyapatite.

What’s the recovery following under eye fillers?

The brilliant thing about treatments with dermal fillers & tear trough injections is that there is no downtime afterwards. With our technique using blunt-tipped micro cannulas, you will not likely have any bruising—however, the following morning you will experience swelling under and around the eyes.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers around the eye last a long time, well beyond the 12 months advertised by clinics & filler companies.

MRI scans show that fillers can last 3 to 5 years & often beyond. On this basis we encourage under correction of the eye area. Read more to understand.

What is the concept of under filling the eye area, & why is this important?

Specialists know that under eye fillers last well beyond their advertised lifespan. We know this because we have been filling since 2006, & we deal with dermal filler complications from all around Queensland. Fillers are visible on MRI scans many years later.

We underfill the eye area because we know that over time, fillers can migrate, & or take up more water to the area. This means in some cases; your filler looks better 2-3 years down the road.

Do lasers melt fillers under the eye?

No, lasers & energy devices do not melt dermal fillers. This is because fillers are stable at temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for many minutes. Hence if we refer you for lasers, you can be assured that your under-eye filler is stable.

What to consider when considering fillers in the under-eye area?

It’s a big investment that you want to get right- from the start. Consider-

        • Experience of your injector. Is filling the correct thing for your concerns?
        • The filler types. What selection, & why?
        • Your expectations. Do you want & immediate results or prefer slower results over time?

It’s more than the undereye area. Consider brows, temples, mid cheek & transitions. This provides the most natural result.
