FAQs
What is the simplest way to effectively treat forehead wrinkles?
Strategically injected muscle relaxants reduce the activity of key muscles of the forehead. This in turn decreases muscle contractions. This no-downtime, low risk procedure takes only a few minutes to perform. Results are predictable & most importantly, if performed correctly, natural.
Will I look natural?
You bet. Our injectors have up to 20 years’ experience in the field of injectable aesthetics. Our dermatologists teach this procedure to other injectors nationally.
When you see our injectors, you will get a complete 360 assessment, we just don’t inject as we are also industry leaders in lasers, energy devices & chemical peels.
When will I see the results?
The results are visible on day 9. It takes another week or two to see the final results as it takes time before lines & wrinkles in the skin appear smoother.
With continued injections at 4-6-month intervals, we can maintain the results for longer. Be guided by our injectors.
What is the recovery following injections?
There is no downtime required with cosmetic injectables, unlike lasers.
You may notice tiny red bumps around the injection sites; however, this resolves within 30 minutes. In rare cases there may be a tiny bruise that resolves in a few days. The treatment areas can be concealed using make-up immediately after the procedure.
How much does this procedure cost?
Typically treating the forehead lines in isolation ranges from $180 to $260, depending on the amount of ‘units’ we use.

*T&C applies.
How would I know if this treatment is for me?
Book a consultation with our nurse injectors at Cutis Dermatology. They will assess your skin, as well as your expressive movements. We will then formulate a treatment plan based upon clinical assessment.
How long do the results last?
Anti-Wrinkle results typically last for 3 to 4 months. The most important predictor of longevity is the degree of natural facial expression you have.
With repeated treatments, anti-wrinkle injections tend to last longer. A top up at week 12 to 16 is typical.
Are injections painful?
There’s mild discomfort with each injection, akin to an ant bite (normal household ants, not big ass green ants). If you are particularly sensitive to pain, we can use ice prior to the procedure. There’s no pain post injection.
Can dermal fillers be used to treat forehead wrinkles?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be safely administered to treat more persistent wrinkles of the forehead. This treatment carries a higher risk as compared to dermal fillers in other areas. Our dermatologists perform this procedure.
What causes horizontal forehead wrinkles?
Forehead wrinkles are due to two factors- dynamic muscle movement & chronological aging.
Dynamic wrinkles: are due to repeated contraction of the frontalis muscle. This muscle is activated with raising of the eyebrows. Anti-wrinkle injections, placed strategically, reduce activity of the frontalis muscle, in turn reducing wrinkles.
Chronological aging: Skin aging also contributes to the formation of wrinkles. With time you lose tensile strength of collagen & elastic fibres in turning this increases skin laxity. Procedures such as lasers, chemical peels & dermal fillers increase hyaluronic acid & collagen, in turn reducing wrinkles.
Treating forehead lines is akin to baking a croissant, everyone can do it, but only a few can execute it well. Good injection technique reduces lines without the heavy feeling, & importantly preserves or lifts the brows.
What are the potential side effects?
Redness & swelling resolves within 30 minutes. In exceptional cases there may be some bruising that disappears within a few days.
It’s normal to feel slightly heavier as the frontalis muscle is weakened. This feeling resolves after a few days. In less than 2 percent of cases, your muscles may be hypersensitive to anti-wrinkle, & a transient brow droop may be experienced. Side effects can be reduced by avoiding touching your forehead area for 12 hours post injection. You can resume heavy exercise the next day.
Can lasers treat forehead wrinkles?
Lasers are great for static wrinkles, or wrinkles at rest. In truth horizontal forehead wrinkles are great in combination with anti-wrinkle injections.
The most used lasers to treat wrinkles & lines on the forehead include Fraxel 1927 thulium & lower density CO2. This is termed Hybrid Laser Resurfacing.

Can anti-wrinkle injections be combined with lasers on the same day?
No, it’s because lasers give some skin swelling which can dissipate anti-wrinkle injections. This can lead to unwanted side effects such as drooping. As a guide, space out appointments by 7 days (either pre or post laser or the other way around).
If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss this with our expert nurses.
What is the role of microneedling?
Microneedling is a great treatment for increasing topical delivery to the deeper layers of skin. As compared to lasers, the skin rejuvenation effects are minimal.
In the context of horizontal forehead lines, simple injections give far better outcomes with far less downtime & costs, in comparison to microneedling.
Are chemical peels effective in treating the forehead wrinkles?
Chemical peels including Jessner & Jessner TCA are effective in addressing static wrinkles. Peels, like lasers, are best for wrinkles in more mature skin.
Superficial peels including lactic, glycolic & retinoic acid peels are great treatments to reduce early wrinkles & skin ageing.
Can HIFU or Ultherapy reduce forehead wrinkles?
Marginally at best. HIFU is best used to treat skin laxity & not dynamic wrinkles. HIFU can be used off label just below the brow to create a ‘brow lift’, it is not indicated as first line treatment for horizontal forehead lines.
What is a permanent treatment for forehead lines?
anti-wrinkle injections require top ups every 4-6 months; however combination treatments can prolong the results.
Your options include-
- Combining muscle relaxing injections with laser resurfacing. This can prolong the result by months to years, providing your expression is in check.
- Dermal fillers can provide some degree of relief, a term called myo modulation. Google risk of blindness for forehead injections of dermal fillers to understand the risks.
- Facial exercises work, however, you do require extensive re-training of your muscles & biofeedback. This means altering your contractions of the frontalis muscle with repetitive recruitment of other muscles.
Can PDO threads treat forehead wrinkles?
You are far better off placing PDO threads in key areas such as the preauricular area. Threads have marginal effects on forehead lines as they do not address dynamic muscle activation.
Are skincare creams effective?
Skin care is integral to anti-aging as they reduce collagen breakdown & wrinkles. Topicals are important to prolong & potentiate the effectiveness of procedures, including anti-wrinkle & laser resurfacing.
As a guide, antioxidants including tocopherol, ascorbic acid, & ferulic acids can reduce UV stress, whilst retinol aids in collagen remodeling & wrinkle reduction.
