Virtual Consultations at Cutis Clinic: How Our Model Has Evolved
At Cutis Clinic, we believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to consultations.
For many patients, an in-clinic consultation remains the most appropriate and comprehensive way to assess concerns, particularly when a hands-on examination is required. However, for a significant proportion of cosmetic, laser and dermatological treatments, our consultation model has evolved.
Dr Davin Lim now predominantly uses virtual consultations for treatment planning, a shift designed to improve efficiency, enhance preparation and streamline the patient journey.
Alongside this, Dr Kathy Robinson, our cosmetic physician, offers both in-clinic and virtual consultations depending on the patient's needs and the type of treatment being considered.
This flexible approach ensures patients are always directed to the most appropriate consultation format.
Watch: How our virtual consultations work
Why We Still Use In-Clinic Consultations
In-person consultations remain essential in many situations. We generally recommend an in-clinic consultation when:
- A physical examination is necessary to accurately diagnose the condition
- Surgical planning requires palpation or detailed anatomical assessment
- There are complex or unclear clinical features that cannot be assessed via imaging
- A procedure may or may not be appropriate and needs hands-on evaluation
In these cases, seeing you in person ensures the safest and most accurate clinical decision-making.
Put simply, if we need to examine you properly, we will.
Why Dr Lim Has Shifted to Virtual Consultations
For many aesthetic, laser and procedural treatment pathways, the consultation is primarily about planning rather than physical examination. In these cases, Dr Lim has moved to a predominantly virtual consultation model.
The reasoning is simple: better preparation leads to better outcomes. A virtual consultation allows time and space to:
- Understand your concerns in detail
- Review clinical photographs
- Map out a structured treatment plan
- Discuss risks, downtime and recovery properly
- Provide clear cost and expectation setting
- Begin pre-treatment skin preparation where required
By completing this process before you arrive in clinic, your treatment day becomes more focused, efficient and predictable.

Two Doctors, Two Complementary Approaches
Dr Davin Lim
- Focus on complex skin conditions and laser-based procedures
- Advanced treatment planning for pigmentation, acne, scarring and skin resurfacing
- Predominantly uses virtual consultations for structured treatment planning
Dr Kathy Robinson
- Focus on cosmetic dermatology and routine cosmetic treatments
- Skin quality, facial rejuvenation and general aesthetic concerns
- Offers both in-clinic and virtual consultations depending on the treatment and patient needs
Both approaches are aligned in philosophy, with a strong emphasis on safety, evidence-based care and clear treatment planning. Dr Robinson's dual model is tailored to the patient. For some, particularly those interstate or seeking initial guidance, a virtual consultation is a convenient and effective way to begin planning. For others, especially when a physical assessment will add clinical value, an in-clinic consultation is recommended.
What Happens in a Virtual Consultation?
A virtual consultation is a structured medical appointment with one of our doctors. You will discuss:
- Your main concerns and treatment goals
- Previous procedures or skin history
- Suitable treatment options
Clinical photographs are often reviewed to assist with planning. After the consultation, you will receive a written treatment plan outlining:
- Recommended procedures
- Expected outcomes
- Risks and potential side effects
- Downtime and recovery expectations
- Cost estimates
- Any required pre-treatment steps
This gives you time to review everything properly before committing to treatment.
Why This Improves Treatment Outcomes
One of the most important benefits of this model is preparation. Many treatments require steps before the procedure itself, such as:
- Optimising skin health
- Starting prescription skincare
- Treating active inflammation or acne
- Adjusting medications
- Planning downtime and recovery logistics
- Ensuring support at home after procedures
When this is done in advance, patients arrive better prepared, and treatments can proceed more smoothly and efficiently.
A Better Experience for Travelling Patients
Cutis Clinic sees patients from across Queensland, interstate and overseas. For these patients, virtual consultations reduce unnecessary travel and allow treatment planning to be completed before arriving in Brisbane.
This is particularly helpful for patients undergoing:
- Laser resurfacing
- Scar revision procedures
- Hair restoration planning
- Cosmetic surgical consultations
- Complex dermatological treatment plans
It means fewer trips, clearer planning and more efficient use of time.
What Changes on Treatment Day?
With a completed virtual consultation, your in-clinic appointment becomes much more streamlined. By the time you arrive, you already understand:
- What treatment you are having
- Why it has been recommended
- What results are realistic
- What downtime to expect
This allows your appointment to focus entirely on safe and effective treatment delivery rather than extended planning discussions.
Is a Virtual Consultation Always Appropriate?
No, and we are very clear about this. If your case requires physical examination, diagnostic clarification or surgical assessment, we will recommend an in-clinic consultation. The virtual model is used selectively where it improves efficiency without compromising clinical standards.
The Cutis Clinic Approach
At Cutis Clinic, our priority is always appropriate care, not convenience for its own sake. The evolution toward virtual consultations in Dr Lim's practice reflects a simple principle: when planning can be done well in advance, outcomes improve and patient experience becomes smoother.
In-person consultations remain an important part of what we do. Virtual consultations simply allow us to deliver the right type of appointment at the right time.
Ready to Begin?
If you are considering a cosmetic, laser or dermatological procedure, your first step may be a virtual consultation, or in some cases, an in-clinic assessment. We will guide you to the most appropriate option based on your needs.
