BBL Photorejuvenation

BBL and IPL therapy are both safe and effective treatments for uneven skin texture and hyperpigmentation, as well as for redness and flushing. The treatment takes about 15 minutes to perform and clients can immediately resume normal activities.

Dermatologists frequently combine multiple treatments to achieve optimal results.  These may include TCA Cross,  Fraxel (1550nm), fully ablative lasers (erbium, CO2) and fractional lasers (erbium, CO2).

Non-laser treatments are also on the rise, especially for the improvement of early acne scarring. These include Infini (radiofrequency needling), Dermapen needling, and eMatrix (radiofrequency).

BBL is a modern innovation, producing high quality light-based technology that sets new standards for treating skin conditions that are caused by the ageing process, an active lifestyle and sun damage.

BBL light energy allows your specialist dermatologist to tailor individualised skin treatments. Treatments can be fine-tuned to combat age and sun spots, small facial veins and many other skin defects.

BBL phototherapy is non-invasive, meaning you can enjoy pain-free and effective treatment according to your schedule, even during your lunch break.

The term BBL is often used in the same context as IPL, as BBL is an updated version of IPL skin treatment. At Cutis Clinic, we have replaced our outdated IPL treatment (Quantum) with BBL (Scition) as results show that this is a more accurate and specific treatment method.

BBL produces pulses of light energy which gently heat the upper layers of your skin, while the light is absorbed by deeper targets, such as broken blood vessels that cause redness, and brown spots or pigmented lesions that are the result of excess melanin production.

This procedure destroys the target discolouration, eliminating it and restoring your skin to its natural beauty. Your natural tones will appear more vibrant and youthful in both appearance and touch.

  • Pigmented lesions (freckles, age spots etc.)
  • Vascular lesions (visible small blood vessels, rosacea and other micro-capillary flushing)
  • Skin laxity
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Unwanted hair
  • Acne scarring and wrinkles are best treated with fractional laser therapy

Any area of your body can be treated with BBL.
The most popular treatment locations are the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.

Treating an active sun or tanning bed tan should not be done with BBL. Tanned skin has an overall excess of pigment or melanin that may absorb BBL light energy and counteract its effect upon specific areas. It is recommended that you avoid UV exposure for at least 3 weeks prior to BBL treatment. The results of self tanning creams must have faded from the skin for at least 1 week to 10 days prior to treatment. Discuss the options related to tanning during your treatment and create a safe tanning scheme together with your Cutis Clinic specialist .

The number of treatments required varies individually and depends upon various factors. Cutis Clinic provides personalised treatment plans based upon your specific skin-related requirements and the level of desired improvement. Your clinician may also combine your treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures to further enhance the outcome.

Your eyes are protected with safety shields or glasses. A warm or “rubber band snap” sensation may be lightly felt, as the feeling reflects the light being absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area being treated as well as procedure being performed. Your dermatologist will discuss all of your options with you beforehand.

BBL treatment is gentle, noninvasive and safe. There is rarely need for a topical anaesthetic but your specialist may choose to apply one on more sensitive areas.

Slight redness may be noticeable post treatment but should resolve within a few hours. Pigmented lesions will darken and gradually flake off and fade over the course of the next 7-10 days. Your treated skin will feel smoother; fine lines and pores will become less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your skin’s condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated.

Your Cutis Clinic specialist will provide you with detailed information concerning post treatment care and results.

This is a noninvasive and gentle procedure without any downtime. You can return to work, apply makeup, and resume daily activities immediately.

It is important to follow your dermatologist’s instructions. You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. If you must go outdoors, cover any areas of treated skin when possible and use at least an SPF 30 sun block.

Before any treatments are carried out each client is thoroughly assessed by a Cutis Clinic dermatology specialist.  Skin condition assessment is made at the time of the consultation, and your dermatologist will then be able to recommend the most appropriate and effective treatment plan.

BBL is an updated version of IPL where finer, specialised filters fine-tune and enable treatments that improve specific conditions such as uneven skin tone, pigmentation and broken capillaries or spider veins.

The procedure is usually very well tolerated and forms the basis of photorejuvenation in patients with mild to moderate signs of ageing caused primarily by UV exposure. BBL (formerly IPL) is an ideal first step in patients seeking results who do not have the option of downtime that is necessary when high-energy lasers are used.

My facial redness and rosacea flare-ups have improved out of sight after only 3 treatments…I don’t need to use make-up anymore.”  Louise T, Rosacea patient.

Freckles gone after 2 treatments. Very happy with the results.”  Jackie P, Bardon.
